Islam for Beginners

Basic Introductory Course for Youth, Adults, New Muslims and Non-Muslims

Specially designed for the beginner and aims to clarify the essentials of Islām in a clear and simplified manner. Classes are intended to be practical and interactive. Students are free to ask any question which will then be included into the final learning experience.

The entire course is divided into three essential components:

  1. Iman or inward submission to Allah This component will deal with the essentials of Islamic belief or orthodoxy in Islam.
  2. Islam or external submission to Allah This component encompasses the legal system of Islam or orthopraxis in Islam.
  3. Ihsan or excellence in worship and behaviour. This component clarifies the Islamic path to personal improvement and the attainment of spiritual enlightenment.

The course will cover such topics as:

  1. A basic introduction to the way of being that is Islam
  2. Muslim Customs
  3. Who is Allah? What is He like? What can He do and what does He do?
  4. What are prophets and messengers? What function did they serve? Did they possess any distinguishing features? Tell us about some of the prophets and messengers.
  5. What is revelation? What has Allah revealed to man over the ages? What differentiates the Quran from all other revelations?
  6. What are angels? What purpose do they serve? Name some of the angels and their functions.
  7. What is The Final Day and what are its occurrences? Also what are the signs of The Hour?
  8. What is the nature of predestination and why do Muslims believe in it? What then is the function of human choice in a predetermined world?
  9. How to perform salah as done by the Messenger of Allah [peace be upon him].
  10. Basic overview of the Islamic sciences of Janazah [washing, shrouding and burial of the deceased], Ṣawm [fasting], Zakah [compulsory alms] and Ḥajj and Umrah [pilgrimage].
  11. The basics of the Islamic science of Tazkiyah al-Nafs or self-reformation.

    My name is Ashura. I have 3 dependents and am unemployed. Myself and my daughter (17 will be 18 soon in shaa Allah) and my son (14) embraced Islam 3 years ago and my daughter wants to really study the quran, I don’t know what to advise her and don’t have the finances to assist her – do you know what or where or how I can get assistance for her. I have looked at the courses there are to offer ad would be interested in something for her but also for myself – the beginners for me …..Arabic but she has gone into the quran already so not quite sure what is applicable to her. She was on Voice of he Cape about 3 weeks ago as well on Journey to Islam. She was receiving your notifications via WhatsApp and introduced me to you guys as well. My little one is 19 months …. we reside in the Salt River area
