Arabic Language for Beginners
The course is intended for beginner learners who want to read, recognize, pronounce, and aurally identify Arabic letters with confidence. It is based on the age old principle that “he who does not master the basics is forbidden from achieving”. It is designed with the complete beginner in mind, students who have no exposure to Arabic and want to learn some very useful concepts better than advanced students. Intermediate students who can already read may also find benefit in the course.
The course uses a balanced approach involving the elements of language learning and spends time on reading, listening, writing and pronouncing each letter of the Arabic alphabet. Each lesson involves exercises with analysis of the written text to build fluency in reading and writing of the Arabic script.
The class uses an engaging workshop-style approach with a minimum of 60% of the class time spent on student activities to enhance practice for proficiency.
Complete beginners (who may not have even seen Arabic letters) to intermediate students who may be able to recognize some or all letters but want to improve on their fluency in order to start reading classical and scholarly texts.
Expected from you, the participant!
You are expected to engage in the class, read and revise the lesson notes daily, before and after a class, do what is asked of you by the lecturer, refrain from copying another participant’s work but may work together (it becomes copying when both parties are not
gaining a positive learning experience) and spend adequate time with the course material outside of the classroom.
